Ritual of Releasing the Old

Letting go

This ritual offers a calm space to acknowledge what you’re ready to put down. It helps you loosen your hold on outdated habits, emotions, or stories. Through mindful release, you open the door to what comes next.

You will need

Required
  • Candle

Any simple candle that can burn safely for the length of the rite.

  • Paper and pen

Scrap paper or a small page in a notebook is fine.

Optional

    Ritual Steps

    1. Acknowledge the weight

On a small piece of paper write a word phrase or short description of what you are ready to release.

    2. Flame witness

Light a candle and read what you wrote aloud once acknowledging honestly how it has affected you.

    3. Transform the paper

Tear the paper into small pieces imagining that the old pattern is breaking apart as you do.

    4. Breathe new space

Take several deep breaths picturing new clear space opening inside you where the old once sat.

    5. Close and release

Extinguish the candle and say quietly that you release this and choose to move on.

    Closing / Release

As you close, acknowledge your willingness to let go. Step forward gently, knowing you’ve created room for something new. Let the space created by releasing what you no longer need remain open, inviting in whatever feels right to arrive next.

Prompt: What does your energy feel like compared to when you began?
